Alexandra Cohen Hospital opens, completing the David H. Koch Center

The special hospital is the final phase in the development of NewYork-Presbyterian’s innovative ambulatory care center, which provides a range of services in a setting focused on patient experience. In keeping with the architectural vision informing the entire Koch Center—designed as a collaboration among HOK, Ballinger, and Pei Cobb Freed & Partners—the Cohen Hospital enjoys abundant daylight and views through the building’s distinctive glass facade, which wraps around circulation spaces, waiting areas, and treatment rooms that in traditional facilities are typically windowless.

Capable of accommodating more than 7,000 births a year, the new hospital contains 75 private rooms for prepartum and postpartum care, promoting family bonding and comfort. The 60-bed neonatal intensive care unit, also with private rooms, is the first in New York City with a dedicated MRI and operating room, offering the highest level of critical care for newborns.
